Finalists in nine categories were announced for the 5th edition of the Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards. The awards, which were created to promote and value animation in the Ibero-American region, will be presented May 14 at a ceremony held at Casa de América.

Submissions were received from 12 countries including Brazil; Chile; Mexico; Spain; Argentina; Peru; Colombia; Uruguay; Ecuador; Portugal; and for the first time the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

Best Feature Film category:

  • Bob Spit – We Do Not Like People – directed by Cesar Cabral, produced by Coala Filmes, Cup Filmes (Brazil)
  • My Uncle José – directed by Ducca Rios, produced by Origem Produtora De Conteúdo (Brazil)
  • Valentina – directed by Chelo Loureiro, produced by Abano, Antaruxa, Gatoverde, Sparkle Animation (Spain, Portugal)
  • Ainbo Spirit of the Amazon – directed by José Zelada and Richard Claus, produced by Tunche Films, Cool Beans (Peru, Netherlands)

  • Two Little Birds – directed by Alfredo Soderguit and Alejo Schettini, produced by Palermo Estudio, Can Can Club, Señal Colombia (Uruguay, Argentina, Colombia)
  • Frankelda’s Book of Spooks Season 1 – directed by Roy Ambriz and Arturo Ambriz, produced by Cinema Fantasma
  • Zander Season 1 – directed by Enrique Ortega, produced by Tres Tercios Producciones, Señal Colombia; with the support of TVN and financed by CNTV (Chile, Colombia)

Best Animation School Short Film category:

  • Crimson Tears – directed by Íñigo Álvarez and Antonio García Tardón, U-Tad Centro Universitario de Tecnología y Arte Digital (Spain)
  • Flies Only Live One Day – directed by Mauro Luis López, Master en Animación UPV (Spain)
  • Abril – co-directed by Sofia Caponnetto and Eliana Fernández – Universidad Ort Uruguay (Uruguay)
