Scream queen Mia Goth is headed to the MCU! The Pearl and X actress has joined the upcoming Blade reboot in an undisclosed role; the film stars Mahershala Ali as the eponymous vampire slayer.
Yann Demange (Lovecraft Country, White Boy Rick) has taken the helm of the wayward film, which lost its original director Bassam Tariq in September due to shifts in the production schedule.
The Blade script is being penned by newcomer Michael Starrbury, who took over writing duties after Stacy Osei-Kuffour’s original script was rumored to be completely re-written by Beau DeMayo.
From losing its director, to extensive script re-writes, and delays causing multiple other film pushbacks, the production has taken quite the wild ride, but it seems to be finally nailing down a dream team. Production will resume in Atlanta next year, following another release delay from November 3, 2023 to September 6, 2024.
The original story of Blade follows half-human, half-vampire Eric Brooks, who seeks revenge for the death of his mother at the hands (or fangs) of vampires. Ali takes over the role of Brooks first portrayed by Wesley Snipes in the original 1998 film of the same name, as well as Blade II (2002) and Blade: Trinity (2004).
Currently, there’s no word on who will handle the VFX.
Catch Blade when it slashes into theaters September 6, 2024, barring further delays.
