Tom Hanks, Robert Zemeckis, and Eric Roth Team Up to Adapt Graphic Novel ‘Here’ 2 Tom Hanks, Robert Zemeckis, and Eric Roth are back together again — this time, to adapt the groundbreaking graphic novel Here. The project will reunite the Oscar-winning trio for the first time in almost 30 years, since they etched their names into Hollywood history with the release of Forrest Gump in 1994.

Here is based on the 2014 book by comics illustrator Richard McGuire, which is set in one room and charts the events that took place in said room over hundreds of thousands of years. McGuire’s influential story was first published as a six-page comic strip in the Art Spiegelman and Françoise Mouly-edited comics anthology Raw in 1989.

Hanks will star, Zemeckis will direct, and Roth will write the screenplay for the film, which is being produced by Playtone and ImageMovers, Deadline reports. The auction for the package will be brokered by CAA, which represents Hanks, Roth, and Playtone, and WME, which represents Zemeckis and ImageMovers.

After the runaway success of Forrest Gump, Hanks worked with both Zemeckis and Roth separately. Hanks and Zemeckis paired up to make Cast Away in 2000, The Polar Express in 2004, and most recently, the upcoming live-action adaptation of Disney’s Pinocchio. Zemeckis also executive produced Hanks’ 2021 Apple original film Finch. Roth – who was just nominated for a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for co-writing Dune – also wrote the script for the 2011 drama Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, in which Hanks starred.
